Chinchilla-safe paint that I can repaint his cage bottom and shelves with? Anyone know of any?

what are surface are you trying to paint? wood? metal?

If it were me- I probably wouldn't paint it- just to be safe.

I have been told by a breeder I work with.. with rust (in the cage's pan) brushing it with a wire brush and using grey primer would take care of it. but I'm not sure if that would help you or not.

We sand and spray our pans often with a basic gray primer than comes in a can from Wal-Mart. In fact it might be a Wal-Mart brand. I believe its less than a dollar a can.  If you read the back most will say non-toxic when dry.  If you are really worried you can find spray paint that actually says "FOR USE ON CHILD FURNITURE"  However, anything that says non-toxic is fine.

If you have any wooden surfaces just use a coarse sand paper to buff it clean.

So, if it's non-toxic for humans, then it should also be safe for chins? 

I am really paranoid about chemicals and try to find "all-natural" products to use around the chins.  Unfortunately, many things don't come in organic form, and organic stuff is expensive!

Oh its a wire cage. I hate the blue they put in it as our entire house is maroon and green. The paint is starting to chip in certain places from where I close the cage with a nickel clip to keep him from plunging out of the cage like he did the other night.... and got lost. I found him in minutes o.o don't know how.

Anyways, I wanted to know if it was okay to paint it at all as he doesnt chew on anything but wood and cardboard and lava stones. I guess I just got lucky with his well behavior. Not saying that can't change so I keep an eye out. The only plastic in his cage is PVC anyways.

So non toxic, gotcha. I figured as much but wanted to double check!
