have someone fill out a questionaire of some sort before purchasing a chin?  I've really been considering doing this b/c I want to know that the people I'm selling my chins to, are knowledgable and know what they're doing.

I did not have to fill out a questionnaire for our breeder.  We did receive a "fact sheet" about chinchillas and the breeder spent a lot of time walking through the building with us and talking.  I hope she was evaluating us in the course of the conversation.  I read up before we decided on a chinchilla, thought we knew a lot, and then found out through experience we STILL don't know how much we don't know. 
Does anyone post their questionnaire on a website?

Yep!  My questionnaire is on my website.  I ask that people don't take my questionnaire to use for their own buyers, but it certainly can be used to help breeders/sellers determine what they think important questions are for prospective buyers.  I even say on my questionnaire that people who aren't interested in purchasing from me are welcome to fill it out just for general feedback, if they'd like.

I don't have a questionnaire.  But I do insist on meeting with each prospective buyer sometime before the purchase.  I talk with them at the meeting, and correspond with them by email extensively.  I also provide information to all buyers on chinchillla care.  Anyone who isn't open to receiving, reading, and following up on the info isn't taking one of my babies home

I don't have a website yet but I'm going to create one of my own to have people fill out.  I guess I can email it for now but I sold my first chin to people I thought were good owners and I think they mean well, they just didn't do any research. So I gave my lecture on food, cages and all that stuff.  I'm hoping they follow through with what I told them.

If you haven't already I would put together a little packet.. an information sheet (or sheets if its like mine!) to give each new owner also. If you are a part of the ChinchillaBreeders.org there is one you can just print out OR you can put together your own. I put all my contact information in my packet also and say that I would love an update or pictures.

Edit: AND it is great to have a sheet with their info.. name, numbers, address and email. For your keeping.

   I don't have a questionnaire, but I need to make one.  I do have a contract that has to be agreed to and signed by both parties.  We both keep a copy of it.  You are welcome to use a copy of it, changing the names and all, of course.  It's at: http://www.luvnchins.com/AdoptionContract.html 
I have not had a problem with anyone agreeing to it ... if they don't agree to it, they don't get a chin from me.

Chinparent point of view...I love the idea of a questionnaire as a starting point for a conversation.  I also appreciated the handouts our breeder gave to me when we picked up our chinchilla.  I think it is important to include a big section on the handouts or the questionnaire about snacks/treats (or at least bold, large font cautions).  Its SOOO tempting to give another raisin when they look at you and grind their little teeth!  Yes, yes, I do know better, and we behave at our house.

Also, I found websites through my own efforts.  If you as breeders can offer chatrooms or websites that you trust on the paperwork you give to new chinparents, I think it might go a long way toward keep us communicating with people who know about chinchillas.

Well, I'm going to create a questionaire and I'm going to create an information packet for each new owner. I'm sure it'll make my life easier and it'll be very helpful to any potential buyer.
