Fur Biting
« on: November 10, 2007, 03:44:19 PM »

I recently got a new cage for my chin, and was wondering if this type of environmntal change can make a chinchilla bite their fur.  He hasn't bitten before, but I don't know if it's in his genes. ::silly::

It could be passed down in genes.. and also caused by stress. I had a girl who chewed on her tail (not very much at all.. it was hard to notice) when she was stressed in her new environment but it was only over a few days. She is fine now. Some chins have serious problems with that and can pass it down to their offspring.

Thanks.  I was reading about fur biting in some chinchilla books, and it's a little confusing. ::shrug::
