Chins need to be in 62 degrees and 74 degrees fahrenheit. Chins can easily die of heat exhaustion.

80 to 85 is way to hot.  I keep mine at 65 year round or alittle cooler in the winter.

Contrary to popular belief, fans do not actually cool the air.  They circulate the air, which makes us (as humans) feel cooler because the air is blowing across the sweat on our skin.  Chinchillas do not have this sweat and, therefore, are not cooled by the air from a fan.

Wow, you like it hot don't you? I wouldn't be able to stand it in 80-85... and neither would chins. The temp should be 65-70.. NO higher then 74. And no- fans will circulate but not cool.

I learned a trick from owning reptiles. it was that you take some soda bottle fill them with water freeze them and put some of the frozen water bottles beside the tank. this is used for tropical reptiles that need a cool tank. do you think this would work for chinnchillas?

No not to replace a a/c unit, as emergency yes that would work. Especially in Bakersfield, It gets in the triple digits here for days at a time & and stays in the 80's night some times.

I was just wondering, you always hear about the dangers of chinchillas getting to hot but what about to cold? I'm assuming that there is such a thing as too cold for them? I'm just not sure what temperature that would be around. Thanks =)

I doubt you would be able to tolerate the cold temperatures by the time it would be too cold for the chinchillas.  Ideally, you don't want it to be below 45 degrees.
