OK, 2 days ago I had to go to the pet store to get Otis some more bedding and some more food. I was walking down an aisle and saw chinchilla vitamins. They came in a little jar. I was wondering if I should buy them. He eats a normal diet, drinks normal amounts of water, eats his Timothy hay, has 1 raisin a day, and eats his house (which is made of hay)! Should I buy them for Otis? Are they good for them? If I do buy them, will his behavior change?

Check the ingredients, you want extra calcium and vit. C.
No it won't change his behavoir, and I wouldn't think there could be anything wrong with giving him a vitamin suppliment if all ingredients are chin safe.

next time you see it (or if you remember now) get the name of the product and look it up online and look over the ingredients. I don't ever remember seeing vitamins for chins anywhere before. I just don't know if I'd trust just anything from a pet store so do some research.

   Were the vitamins in pill/tablet form or liquid form?

I've never heard of processed vitamins for chinchillas ... I would question it.

Never use liquid vitamins that are mixed in with the water in a bottle.  The sunlight will distroy the vitamins + you never know how much the chin actually gets.

Keep in mind that too much vitamins are not necessarily a good thing.  Your chinchilla should be getting all of the vitamins he needs with a high quality pellet and plenty of fresh hay.  If you're looking at the teeth and they are not dark yellow to orange in color, additional calcium is needed.  However, if the color of the teeth is as it should be, too much calcium can be bad.  Too much calcium can cause constipation, white deposits in the chin's urine, and bladder stones.
