My husband and I like to be silly, and for the five years we've had our cats, we've always made up songs about them. Usually in the car because the commute is really long! Well, naturally we started to make up songs about chinchillas. The first melody that came to mind for me was the song from Mary Poppins by the chimney sweep.
We had a bit of fun yesterday, I hope you enjoy it!
Chin chillerey
Chin chillerey
Chin chin chell-ee!
A chin is real happy
As happy can be.
Chin chillerey
Chin chillerey
Chin chin chell-oo!
I want a peanut
a raisin or two!
or some timothy hay
a bit of that will do!
Now, I love me ladders
me houses an’ things
You may think I’m silly
but at least I don’t stink!
Though I spends me time
In dust and small litter
In this ‘ole wide world
There is no happier critter
Up where the cage is
I’m sleeping and curled
'Tween hammocks and pine
Is the chinchilla girl world
When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the cage-tops of Calgary
Coo, what a sight!
I sleep with my play mate
Yes, I do
we curl in a ball
and snooze all day long
Though I'm covered with dust
From me 'ead to me toes
A chin knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes
Chin chillerey
Chin chillerey
Chin chin chell-ee!
When you're with a chin
You're in glad company
No where is there
A more 'appier chin
Than them wot sings
"Chin chin chillerey
Chin chell-oo!"
On the chin chillerey
Chin chin chell-ee
Chin chell-oo!
