Hello all,

I need some help on determining the sex of my baby chin. I need to know before I can decide whether to separate the baby from the Mom when it reaches its sexual maturity. I put a photo of its genital area in my album. Simply click my nickname on the left for the link that will bring you to my profile. The photos are at the bottom of the page. She's a female, darling. Looks just like my Pixel down there, and she's def. a girl. Vet confirmed it.

That picture is a little iffy to me.. I would say boy because I see a little space. If you can put one finger behind the anus and one infront of the cone and put pressure (to pull the two apart) and there is a space (if the cone moves forward) then it is a boy. If there is no space then it is a girl.

how old is this kit? the younger the harder it is somtimes to sex them.

If you could take another picture with you fingers infront and behind (someone will have to take the picture for you) it would be easier for us to tell.

I see a little space as well, but I don't know. It kind of looks female, too. I agree that another photo might be helpful.

I would go with female.  How old if this kit?  With young kits it can be hard to tell...

looks like a male to me...looks like there is a space.  If the cone is not directly in front of the anus then its a boy.  If you lift up on the cone and there is a line for an opening then you have a little girl

Thank you all for your comments. I've uploaded a better photo this time. Based on my observation, it SEEMS to be a boy because of the space between the anus and the cone. Right?

This kit is almost 3 months old. When will s/he reach sexual maturity? Different websites say different things...

I think normally they reach maturity around 4-5 months old. It can be sooner or later. You wouldn't want to breed them that young. I wouldn't breed a male any sooner then 6 months.. personally I wait a few months longer then that. With females you would wait until at least 8 months (no sooner) to a year. You want them to reach a good size so they can carry and birth the kits without problems. When they are too small they often have problems, don't reach their full size and tend to always have smaller kits.

That's what I though too, a boy.

No, don't worry, right now I don't have plans to breed him. Now I know he's a boy then I'll put him with his dad in the same cage in case he'll interbreed with Mom.
