What color is this Kit
« on: January 24, 2008, 11:44:42 PM »

I am stumped!...I have been breeding for years and I can not figure out the color of this chin!!..He was just born on the 20th He father is a standard and his mom is a pink white.  He has light and deep grey beige and white in his fur,he is light at the head and get darker as you desend down his body could he be some kind of mosaic?..his belly is the same as the rest of his body and not white and he has a tiny triangle of white on his chest.  I am going crazy can Joann or Jamie help??

I would say  Mosaic, then again it looks kind like it might be beige.  Can you take a picture on something white?

also if his brother who looks like a pink white but has grey in certain spots of the fur would it be considered a white mosaic, I know he is not a regular mosaic because he still has bright pink ears.

I dont know how he could be tan out of a standard and pink white pairing? in the pictures he looks solid to me.. because the colors around him are so busy. if you could take more pictures on something plain and idealy white.. and then black to see contrast. This may be a time you need to see how he continues to grow and see how he changes. Hes a cute little guy, btw :)

Can you post a pic of him against a white background with natural light?  The lighting and background can both drastically affect the appearance of their color in the picture.

He certainly has the ebony in him.  I would classify him as a tan.  Sometimes you can get off colors, or it could just be the picture.  Hopefully as he grows his color will darken.

Ebony is one of those wild genes that can be carried but not shown by the parents.  Any chinchilla with ebony somewhere in its lines can and will eventually throw a solid colored baby like this.  :)

Me too, and I would expect it to get a little easier to see as he ages.
Been there done that and still doing, and I've been at it for years too, I still get stumped/fooled a scattered time.

What a cutie. Keep us posted with pics. I would love to see his color progress as he gets older.
