grain supplement ingredients
« on: June 12, 2008, 12:12:23 PM »

Can anyone tell me what is in the grain supplement for the chinchillas?   Are there different grains from different places?  Do they all have about the same ingredients?  Also, do most chin owners add crushed rosehips?  Is it really necessary?  It probably has a lot of vitamins in it for them.  Right now I order mine from lonestar chnchillas.  I guess Chuck could tell me what's in his.

There a bunch of different types.  We used to make our own.  If you are feeding Tradition chinchilla feed you don't need to supplement but if you are on Mazuri and you are breeding your chinchillas I would certainly use a supplement.

This is the one I used:

2 cups Clovite (vitamin sold in farm feed stores)
4 cups Steamed Rolled Oats
4 cups Wheat Brand
4 cups Crimped Oats
2 cups Raw Wheat Germ (sold in health food stores)
Refrigerate
Makes about 1 gallon.
1 rounded teaspoon per day per chin.
