can I use puppy or kitten formula for the kits
« on: August 19, 2008, 09:49:05 AM »

When I had a mama rabbit die I was told by the vet to use a puppy formula to feed the baby's. I was wondering if I can use pup or kitten formula for the kits if Pooka doesn't have enough milk to feed them?  I know someone asked this before and I didn't find it so I thought to ask again.  Thanks Shannon

You can use KMR kitten formula, or goat's milk.  I always use KMR with a pea size drop of Nutrical mixed in.  The kits eat it up like crazy, and I haven't lost a baby yet.

Where can I buy that at? Goats milk like from the store? What is Nutrical? Thanks for the reply. I worry about my animals I think to much. I just want to be prepaired for anything. We have a traveling vet that does chins. So I have her number also.
Thank you, Shannon

The pet shop we go to for fish stuff has that formula. The kmr for puppy's is what I used for the baby bunnies. So I know that works. Thanks Shannon

In case I need to hand feed any kits what do you all prefer to use, kitten bottles, eye droppers or syringes? Thanks Shannon

I always use the glass eye droppers.  They have ones that have an angled tip, which makes feeding very easy.  I have found that the bottles come with nipples that are way too big and the kits can't use them comfortably, and plastic syringes get chewed up too easily.  Plus, the glass droppers are easy to sterilize.

What is dyne? And thanks. Pooka hasn't really has not let me touch her. She has started eating almost everything I put in her cage. I will be putting her in the other cage soon. Another thing I noticed is that she seems more jumpy than normal. I can (when I can touch her) feel the lump is still there. When she is just sitting there she looks large but when she stretchs she thins out. Next week is her last two weeks so if she preggers it should be showing so right?  Thanks again Shannon
