Help with Special needs ChinChilla
« on: December 04, 2008, 08:28:56 PM »

I have been looking and read alot of the info you have! I want to know what you think I need or can do for my special needs boy. He lost an eye when he was a kit and the other one is damaged. He is blind in the one eye. So, what kinds of things can I do to make him bond with me. I am not sure of his age. I think he is under two. I have been told he does not like the ball or being loose outside his cage. I'm thinking treats will help to bond with him and time.

Second qestion:
has anyone used eCOTRITION Snak Shak Large Bridge or eCOTRITION Snak Shak Large Couch? They look like they were be fine, but wondered what you guys though of them. I could find any info on here. Thank you!!

If it is only he has issues seeing, he may be afraid to get out and run around.

I would try to make him comfortable with hidey houses, hammocks and maybe a wheel.  Make sure he has lots of hay.

If you want to bond, mainly it takes time.  Treats are good but not good, they will expect them 24/7 once you get them started on them.  If you are trying to 'lure'' him in with treats, make sure it is palin cheerios and shredded wheat, rather than raisins.  Give him the good treats.  You can also get chew sticks, that has really worked wonders here!

I don't think those Snak Shaks are good for them.If I remember right they have honey in them which means too much sugar.
Stick to healthy treats like the ones mylittlechinchilla discused.

He will need a little time to settle in and adjust.  I'm sure he wil be fine, he just needs to know he has security and a loving environment.
