Pregnant girl weight question.
« on: June 27, 2010, 08:23:39 PM »

My big girl who I have asked many questions about so far started at 890g and has in the last week jumped to 910g.  Is this a normal weight flux where as she is due in just over 2 weeks.  I have been weighing her each day to keep track of it and slowly she has picked up weight expect yesterday where she lost 8g.  Is this something for me to worry about or is that such a small number that I do not need to worry.  She has not lost anymore since then and has been maintaining.  She defiantly has a huge appetite and is consuming a bunch of water.  Shes happy, good poo, lovable and just wants as much attention as she can get.

Also like I asked in another post, Should I put her in her whelping cage a week before the due date, or what should I do.  They are in a FN142 cage and that is defiantly not what I want the babies in.  The other cage is sitting here ready to go waiting for her.

Thanks a bunch, this is our first set of chin babies and we are a mess over this, we just wanna do right by her.

When is she due? sometimes a small loss in weight indicates they are very close. As for weghing every day I would stop it is an added stress and risk when handeling very pregnant females. My animals get weighed once a month unless there is an issue (like sick animal or major weight loss) but that is not an indication of a problem. But again at this point I would leave her be. Maybe scratches in the cage.

with the weight loss and now maintaining I would put her in now. It is so hard to be sure when they give birth all my females that have even been near a male are kept in baby safe cages. sometimes they surprise you and are closer than you know...

Good luck

July 17 is the due date.  She has been getting weighed in her dust house.  I have not picked her up once.

She's getting close  ::bouncyball::
No I wouldn't worry about a little weight loss at this point, the kits are growing pretty fast. All the finishing touches are pretty much done and the kits are growing, and growing.
Can't wait to hear  ;)

Growing fast is now the understatement.  Since I last posted anything my little girl has gone from well little to a cute blob.  She is defiantly happy now.  I took a few days off from weighing her to ease the transition but today i threw her on the scale.  The last i talked about anything about a week ago she weighed 910g, as of today she weighed in at a cool 965g.  Shes defiantly getting more tired all the time, laying on her side all the time eating a ton more and drinking about the same (maybe a lil more than usual.)  Also she climbed on my hand today and I could feel her tummy and its huge as she laid on my palm.  Defiantly tight and full.  Shes still such a lover so im giving her as much attention through the cage door as I can to keep her happy.  I plan to have her move into the baby cage come Friday this week.  I wanna make sure we get her in there before the chance of babies.  I got everything set up so she will be 4 inches from her mate to keep them close.

I figured an update would be worth while to everyone.  Thanks again for everything.

Pics of the babies will be up as soon as they join us.  ::silly:: ;)
