Sleeping!
« on: January 05, 2009, 12:09:01 PM »

OK so my little girl will sleep on her side! She just lays down in the cage! The first time i saw her do this i thought she was dead! :( But when I walked up to the cage and talked to her she opened her eyes and just looked at me like 'What Do Ya Want?' But I have noticed her doing it alot lately and I'm not sure if it just because she is getting more comportable and staying out more or if it is something I should be concerned about!

She is probably just feeling very comfortable.  Chinchillas usually sleep on their feet, because in the wild they would need to be ready to run away at the first sign of danger.  So, if she is sleeping on her side, she is feeling safe and comfortable.  Unless something else is different with her behavior, eating and drinking patterns, or her poops, then I would say there is nothing to be worried about.

Many, many of my chins sleep on their sides, a few on their backs, they sleep in all sorts of positions..

As long as she is eating, drinking, pooping and very active, I wouldn't worry.

I also like to ask everyone... what kind of feed is she on?  I like to see all chins on a high quality diet and not petstore junk food.

Some chins sleep on their backs.. I've seen it all here, especially when they are sleeping in the 'dead' position and you poke them and the jump  ::think::

 ::silly::  How old is she?

 ::think::  Have there been any male chinchillas around her in the last 4 months?
