Snowie has diarrhea
« on: December 27, 2008, 02:27:00 PM »

I have to baby chins. They are about 3 months old. I got pogo first and then I got snowie. His poop was soft when I get him and then It got better and now its soft and diarrhea now. I'v been giving them nutriphase gold that had treats in them. Then I took out the treats because I found it was bad for them. I had a sample of mazuri and it came with whole grain suppliments. I mixed in into their food evently. I still have some of the nutriphase, and i just started to mix in a little bit of oxbow deluxe two days ago. My other chin is pretty much fine. Its just snowie. I'm not sure why he has diarrhea. I have been giving them one treat that was in nutriphase when they got in their cage, but snowie doesn't always take it either. Then Pogo will eat both, and hes not sick. They also eat timothy hay.

Do they need whole gain suppliments? Or is the pellets, hay and water enough?

Thanks, I'm worried about my chin.

I'm also a little sick. I wasn't sure if they could have caught something from me. Can they get sick from us?

Chins do not need supplements or treats, especially when they are 3 months old.  Remove the pellets and feed copious amounts of hay with fresh water (nothing else) for a few days until the problem is better.  If the problem does not improve you need to take the chin to a vet.

I agree, pull all pellets and only give them hay for a few days.

You also need to get them on a high quality diet, what you are feeding them is not good food.  I would look into Mazuri, Tradition, PANR, there are several GOOD feeds for LESS than what you are paying now, guaranteed!

Anytime I get a chinchilla on Nutriphase or Sun Seeds, I do an immediate cold switch with acidophilus.  (Bad, bad feed  ::nod::)

Ok, Thanks, I will try that. I was told that oxbow was good food for them.

Also, it would be a good idea to settle on what food you are going to feed them and only use that one.  So much switching and mixing has probably upset their little tummies...Oxbow, Mazuri and Tradition are excellent choices.
