New w/ a short story and need some advice
« on: February 06, 2009, 05:31:21 PM »

I don't have any chinchillas, but seriously considering getting one I found at a pet store.  I just started working at this pet store 2 weeks ago.  This chin and I are drawn to each other she greets me when she sees me and I think we are getting pretty bonded, she has three other chin roommates but they are a little more shy.  The problem is they all caught ringworm from a bunch of cavies and its been spreading like wildfire in the sick room(isolation). We have taken every critter to the vet and they are being treated.  Should I wait it out (she could be in isolation for two months) and get this chinchilla or look for another?

I would wait it out.It's really special when you bond with an animal.
But that is just my opinion.

Yes wait it out. ::nod::
Chinchillas take a long time to bond and trust a human so if she is already starting to bond with you that is a really good sign. It'll be worth it. Plus you can take that time to get the cage and everything else ready.

 ::silly::   With you already working there and she is drawn to you already, I would wait for her.   The next chin may not be easy to bond with ... each chin is different, same as each human is different.  No two are guaranteed to get along.

   Anything worth having is worth waiting for ... especially a chin that already loves you!   ;)

    Use this time to get her all the things she will need and get them set-up for her ... she will love you even more!   :::grins::

I went into work last night and the manager said the chinchilla ranch credited the store and they sent back one of the sick chinchillas, I almost had a heart attack but thankfully they sent a different one back. My favorite is still there and doing better.  I also had the honor of giving them their first dosage of meds two of them loved the cherry flavored oral drops the other wasn't interested but took it after a half an hour.  My special chin kept trying to take the other chins dosages from me.

 ::silly::   I would let the mananger know you do want the particular chin, once it gets well.   ::nod::

 ::scaredspeachless::   It's good that you are going to be able to give them their meds, but, do be careful, ring worm is very contagious to humans as well as other animals.

 ::think::   I do hope the manager/owner is/are taking some very strong precautions to prevent transmitting the ringworm to other animals and people.
