Shoots Chinchilla Pellets? Is this considered a "brand"...
« on: April 20, 2009, 02:18:25 PM »

Shoots Chinchilla Pellets...as asked in the title is this a brand...The reason I ask is...I asked the breeder the brand...and really didn't get a definate answer...His website states it's "Shoots Pellets"...I asked him the base and he said it's Alfalfa and not Timothy Hay.

Is this a brand then I think it is I found it on a website of another option of food suggested by a breeder if you changed from what they were feeding.

Quote
FOOD-
PANR (Purina Advanced Nutrition) is what we use here at Bright Eyed Chinchillas. I send home a small
supply with each animal. It is VERY important if you will be switching to a different feed that you slowly mix
the feed I give you with the new to ensure an easy transition for your chin’s sensitive digestive system. If you
switched them too quickly it could shock their systems, which could lead to possible death.

If you do choose to switch feed, you  need to make sure it is strictly pellets- no "treats" such as seeds,
berries, etc. Chinchillas need pellets to provide them with the proper nutrients to stay healthy. Other Feeds
that I would recommend would be: Tradition Chinchilla feed, Shoots Chinchilla feed, Mazuri Chinchilla Diet,
Oxbow Chinchilla Pellets, or PenPals. These feeds you can order offline or possibly get from a local Tractor
Supply Co. or feed store. I do not recommend ANY food from a pet store. See my Links page for sites I
recommend to purchase different feeds from.

And the link I copied that from. ;)

So I guess it's a good brand...so I am considering keeping my guys on it then. And not messing with locating another brand for them.

The Shoots have their own food milled so Shoots is the brand.

::silly::  It's Ralph and Barbara Shoots.  They have a beautiful chinchilla ranch close to Columbus, Ohio.  They have their feed milled for them from a special recipe.  Ralph is a judge and has a very high standing in the chinchilla community.  They have some of the prettiest and healthiest chinchillas I have ever seen.

Here's the URL to their site: http://www.shootschinchilla.com/

Thanks Jo Ann...I guess I'll continue to purchase this off our breeders then. Since they are actually closer than the pet store for us. ;) And I won't have to wonder about the quality since it sounds like it must be good stuff.
