I dont use it . I remember when I first got Chupers I read somewhere in this forum that it wasn't good . I can not remember why but that always stuck with me . I think it was Joann that had mentioned it and now I cant seem to find that post . Goodness it was nearly 3 years ago now.

It may cause respiratory problems and it is not the best quality. Blue Cloud is much better quality.  ::nod::

I've not used the scented...but thought it might make my son's room smell good. But thought better to ask...Our breeder gave us some in a ziplock baggie. I've been using that. But just did a past search on scented dust and seen as you stated...that infections can come from it. I am sure they must have meant Respiratory Infections.  Just checked my husband's brand he picked up at the store... :flames: Dang gone it...ANOTHER THING not worth using...it's SAND not dust...ARG~

I do not think it is good for chinchillas and will not use it.

If you're talking about the scentsations stuff, I've used it.  My chin seemed to like it, but the dust is a bit coarser than other available options.  I've since bought blue cloud, which my chin seems to like more (so much so that during play time she'll jump in her bathhouse several times a night just to roll in the stuff).

I keep hearing blue cloud...I'll have to look into getting some of that. Not sure what type the breeder gave me. It's listed on his site...for purchase...but I can't say if I recall a brand name or anything listed with it...

::silly::  Blue Cloud is the one most major breeders use ... I like it best ... breeders use it on their show chins, too ... it gives a beautiful cast to their fur.

Sented dust bath dust can cause a respiratory infection (that was probably me that misspelled it).   :blush2:  Infections in the lungs are almost always fatal, the lungs are so tiny.

If you check the package of dust bath that came with the dust bath house ... betcha it is dust bath sand, not dust bath dust ... that's probably why he thought it was OK.

I'm sure he was trying to be helpful and thinking of what he could get the chin to make up for the last screw up.   :D  Got to love 'em ... they do mean well.   rofl

Dust bath sand is much to harsh for the chinchilla's fur.

Once I had a lady determined to have a chinchilla of her own, but she had c.o.p.d. The ONLY time I recommend the dust bath sand type, is if there is someone in the family with c.o.p.d.  I first strongly suggest allowing the chin to use regular dust bath dust in a room in the house the person never goes into AND allowing the chin to play for a while (shedding most of the dust) before returning the chin to it's cage in the room it usually lives in all the time.  Of course paper towels, shredded, help a little ... and cardboard play houses help some.  Anything made from wood that is safe for a chinchilla that absorbs the natural oils is better than nothing and can be used ... but the dust bath dust (made from volcanic ash) is the best for the chinchilla.

Yes JoAnn the bag that came with the house is also "sand"...I just never opened the stuff due to I had dust from the breeder...and chose to use that first.
