Rosehips.....?
« on: August 18, 2009, 12:59:17 PM »

Okay, Im on vacation (and charlie is having fun with his friend!). Anyway -- The place I am staying at is near the beach and there are rosehips growing EVERYWHERE.

Ive heard that they make a good treat for little chinnies, but I was wondering if itd be okay for me to pick them to give to charlie when I get home.

If they are, do I have to do anything to them first? and do they have seeds that I can use to plant them near my house?

::silly::  Rose hips are one of the most natural and abundant sources of sugarless, nonacid vitamin C and can be given to chinchillas when grown and harvested properly.  No bug sprays or fertilizers, please.    Rose hips are the seed pods of roses.  Most of us trim our rose bushes once the petals fall off the blooms ... if you do not trim them, you have rose hips that can be left to grow and should not be harvested until after the first frost.  Rosa Canina (also called the dog rose) and  Rosa majalis (cinnamon rose) roses are among the ones highest in vitamin C.

I do not know if they can be given to them before they are dried ... still searching on that one.   ::)

Rose hips uses for humans can be found here:
