CASTLE OF CHIN!!!
Here's the new chinnie house for Jake and Elwood. All night long they hop all over the freakin' place. They LOVE it.
Right now it's messy so don't mind the poops in the cage.

I have the same cage. Minus the plastic stuff. Pooka and Pookie love the cage. I like how I can pull out the pan and dump the stuff out. Cool cage .

   Beautiful cage!     And it looks like it is on wheels! 

Jake and Elwood are both the same sex, aren't they?     For an adult pair of chins of the same sex, the bars would probably be OK, but if you have two chins of a different sex, it would not be safe for the kits if they were to have kits. 

When you have plastic in the cage, chinchillas will often chew the plastic, breaking it off in small sharp pieces and consume them.  The main problem there is that the plastic does not digest and can often cause cuts on the inside of the digestive tract which can set up an infection that might kill them.

  I bet solid pine wood shelves and a pine wood hut would make it look even nicer. 

Don't know what size the exercise wheel is, but it should never be less than 15 inches in diameter ... one smaller than 15" in diameter can cause damage to the spine.   

I love the shape and size of the cage.  It sounds very easy to clean also.

It's a cool cage but yes watch out for the bottom, not only can/ will they eat it but I know a gal who found hers out one morning.Took her 2 days to catch them , and the night before there were no holes.
I'd run strips of pine right around the inside edge to cover that plastic edge that they can get hold of.

ok cool, yea this is a cage for ferrets...you know i'm surprised my gf didn't pick up on the plastic thing, she's the chin expert...i'm new to the chin world and now i'm concerned. it's been about 2 weeks and i don't see any nibble marks on the shelves yet...but now i want to go look.

i put pine corners around the sheetrock edges in the chin room, theres a little ledge they love to hop up on and they chew the sheetrock and it really pisses me off lol. i'd figure they'd chew the pine corners now but instead they stick their lil noses somewhere else in the room and chew up moldings in the corner and whatever else they can get their lil teeth into.

gotta love these lil furballs.

had to get back and let ya'll know...

just checked the shelves and ramps and there's no chew marks. but boy were they happy to see me come in there right up in fron of the cage by the door all like "let us out let us out" i gave em a raisin and vitakraft ring. and said gooooodnite

   Some chins will chew on plastic immediately, while others may go for years, then suddenly start chewing on it.  Do keep in mind, chinchillas will chew almost anything they can get their little teeth into.  Don't let their size fool you ... they are like little beavers at times.

I'll post a picture of a quarter inch aluminum rod our Cotton (chin in charge of the metal works) chewed through completely and again 1/2 the way ... both in less than 8 hours.
