I decided to upgrade my chinchilla cage by buying a bigger cage from Quality Cage Co and then attaching them together. However, now I have the dilemma of where to put my new makeshift cage for it won't fit where it is now. Currently my chinchilla cage is in the family room where things sometimes get noisy and busy. I thought a better solution would be to place my chinchilla in the basement with his new cage. Although I wasn't sure if this was a good idea. Eventhough it would be quieter, cooler, less busy and less drafty, I am concerned about light and if he will get lonely. There are two small windows in my basement that provide minimal light and between me and my brother we spend a decent amount of time down there. Would this be adequate?

As long as it's not damp it should be fine, chins do need light but not that much because they are nocturnal. You have to judge on the nature of your chinchilla whether he will be lonely. One of mine likes being around noise but the others don't. If you spend time down there in the evening and you think it's enough you should be alright, plus he'll have a bigger cage for more toys. And I always like to let my chins jump onto my shoulder or lap and then I take them downstairs for a socialise.
Some of the others should be more able to advise you more.

Only thing I have to add is about a chin friend . I have had chuppers for a few years and I wanted her to have a buddy. I knew the risks and I am dealing with it all now. Your chin might not like this new buddy. I am trying very hard to get them to accept each other. We had one fight during introductions that was pretty scarey . I have now moves the cages next to each other and they make nice through the cage and I am willing to try getting them together again .

Just know the risk . They may never get along and then you will have to have 2 cages.

Well I have been doing as much research as I can to find the best method to introduce two chins. I know it will be a slow process but I hope it works. I have decided to go with a young female because it is said that opposite sexes of chinchillas tend to get along better. Wish me luck!

     Problem!  Questions are necessary to be able to help, so please give an answer to each.   

#1.  How old is the male chinchilla you have now?

#2.  Where did you get this information?

#3.  When you say a "young female", how old a female are you thinking about getting? 

#4.  How much do you know about breeding chinchillas?

The basement would be nice, if it is a finished basement, because it is quiet, but scheduled play times and scheduled visits need to be set and kept ... chinchillas love a routine and need to know they have not been abandoned. 
You can use a "natural sunlight" bulb or a grow bulb in a lamp in the basement for 7 hours a day and there should be enough "sunlight" for your chinchilla.
The main concerns about using the basement are moisture and "two small windows", not so much for the sunlight needed, but for ventelation.  Chinchillas need fresh air.
