What kind of treats do you give your chinchilla?
« on: October 15, 2009, 07:58:49 PM »

 I give my chichi raw pumpkin seeds. This is something that my vet suggested. Does anybody have any other suggestions. I'm a new member and this is my first post. Thanks.

 ::silly::  Hi Chichi!  Welcome to the Chinchilla Club Forum!

How many and what color chin/chins do you have?  How long have you had your chin/chins?

I give my little ones dried rosehips ... they contain lots of needed vitamins and are a good source of Vitamin C.
Dried or fresh papaya is also very good for them.  (rich in vitamin C)   ::fruit::
An occasional raisin or cranraisin.   :::grins::
And a few nibbles of a fresh banana is one of their favorite treats!   ::nod::

I have 1 chinchilla and I got her about 4 years ago. It was my first and only pet I ever had. She is a standard grey. When I first got her my dad was giving her these treats that looked like cheerios, but she did not like them. It was funny though because she would throw them back at my dad.

::silly::  ::silly:: ::silly::  I hope you got video of that ... That must have been hysterical to watch!   :::grins::

Can you post a photo of her, please?  We love chinchilla pictures!

Hi Chichi's Slave, nice to meet you.
Yes we love pics  ::nod::
ya know there must be a list somewhere here of safe treats  ::think:: that should be a thread labeled such.  :::idea:::

Over the years I've tried most of the safe treats with my chins, but ya know I have never thought of pumpkin seeds. ::thumbsup::

As always treats are kept to a minimum, but I give mine at various times, and usually a month at a time, unsweetened healthy cereals like cheerios, shedded wheat and oatmeal.They like most dried fruits, but Jo Ann has been going with the fresh these days, Ive been meaning to try mine with some. Many of the dried fruits have added stuff so watch what you buy. They also love sunflower seeds,saltines, & toast.
Black burnt toast is used to treat diarrhea, but many a times I run out of cereal so for that night they get toast.  ;D They love it, and there's nothing funnier than hearing a whole slew of them munching on toast. :D

I'll have to keep my pumpkin seeds and try them. ::nod::
