Bald spot on base of tail
« on: December 18, 2009, 05:56:53 PM »

Hello! ;)
i just have a quich question about my chinchilla. She has a bald spot on her tail that seems to be spreading. There are no red marks or anything anywhere. Its just a bald spot. it seems like the hair might be growing back slowly. What could be causing this?
She is active and healthy other than that.

Thanks for your help!

If the hair is growing back already its nothing to worry about.  She probably just had it pulled out somehow.  There might be a spot on the cage that caused it. (perhaps around a legde or the edge of a house)

I have some that will rub off fur when they are going around the cage. They all have a rout they take and sometimes the rub their tails while bouncing around. Thus scraping the fur off the underside of the tail. Others I've seen rub off their sides trying to squeeze somewhere.
Unless I see them chewing or notice scabs or flaky skin I don't worry much.
