Baby has sticky poo
« on: February 13, 2010, 12:17:21 PM »

Okay so my new baby chinnie has small poops that are sticking to his bottom... Is it his food? We jut recently weened him to the food Reuben eats. Should we put him back on what he was eating? Also, isn't he supposed to know to clean himslf off?

sometimes babies are not used to cleaning themselves yet so he will not groom himself until hes a bit older. If him and Reuben are bonded though, Reuben should clean him but may not get by his butt. Are you giving him dust baths? that should take off any poops..

Did you slowly wean him over to the new food by slowly mixing the two?

What is the type and brand of food you are giving Reuben and were giving the kit before now?
How old is Reuben?
If he was properly raised by a momma chin, the kit should know how to clean himself, if not, there may be a problem.
How old is this new chinnie?
Where did you get him?
How long have you had him?
Are you giving him any treats?  If so, how many, what kind and how often?

Cut out the treats.
I never feed a kit under 5-6 months old any fruit. Maybe a cheerio or bit of oatmeal, but nothing moist.

i tried to give angel a treat when she was under 6 mos and she got soft poop from it, not sure what i gave her, just know she got the soft poop..

as for cleaning themselves, you mean the dust bath.. it takes them time to learn to use it.
