Chinchilla Maturation Process
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:33:51 PM »

How young are they (generally) when you buy them as kits from a breeder and how long does it take them to be adults? Also, about how small are they when you first get one?

Most breeders wean at 7-8 weeks so that is the youngest you should expect to get one.

If I remember correctly this picture was taken about a week or so before weaning.  You can get an idea of the size of baby.  Chinchillas usually take about 8 months to reach full size although Black Velvets, Violets, and Sapphires can take as long as a year or more.
