New owner, urine stain question..
« on: April 16, 2010, 04:54:29 PM »

My chin has urine stains by her 'parts' and on the base of her tail. I gave her a dust bath to get rid of it but it didnt work /:

Do I just wipe it off with water or will it just come out eventually?
Kinda worried cause I don't want her to develop some fungi or something. Help!

You can try to remove it with a baby wipe but urine stains can be persistent, especially on white fur.  As long as the fur is now dry you don't have to worry about fungus, but you might want to clean the cage more often to prevent more stains in the future. :)

::silly::  Solid (especially plastic or metal) shelves often allow the urine to puddle and they will sit in it, especially if they do it in their sleep.  If you have solid shelves, you might want to angle them very slightly to the center of the cage.

Supply plenty of bedding and clean weekly, or more if needed.   It is just as important to clean the shelves (even the wire ones) on a weekly basis as it is to change the bedding.

Sometime is it the environment and other times it is a learned bad habit ... if the mother did not keep herself clean constantly, the kits will often follow mom's bad example.  For this reason, a chin that stays stained will not be put into breeding by me and becomes a strict "pet only" chin.
