 :blush2:

I've drug my feet...saying I was going to get one...and haven't. My son's birthday I'm going to get him  a few chin things.

I'm getting a play fence to place around his bed and wine chiller [For water bottles he's just a kid  ::silly::] For the chins even while being watched...want to continue to mess with the cords in the room. I'm thinking placing the metal play pen open...as a wall barrier so when the chins are out. They won't eat the cords.

And I want to get the exercise wheel or saucer...now that they are a year old...will they take to the saucer?  That's my fear.

But I need to order it for it to arrive by the end of the month...so...Your adice please...and...sooo sorry this is such an outdated topic... :blush2:

I've had the saucer and my chins hated it.  For one, they are very light and flip pretty easily.  I would highly recommend a 100% stainless steel wheel that has no "bar" on the inside of the wheel as it can hurt their backs.  You can usually find them on Ebay but won't find them in stores.  Beware of play pens too.  Chinchilla's are quite the little climbers!  Little smartypants!

That's a great price...but since I need it by a certain time. I don't mind paying the price and being guarenteed it will arrive by the time I need it.  ;)

if you don't want a flying saucer, you can get a chin spin from qualitycage.com

or a ed spin from questhavenpets.com  both wheels are the same except for how they latch, good safe wheels, make sure you get 15 inch so your chins back desn't get hurt.

goood luck..

oh yah, check craigslist first you never know!!!.

i was puzzling with the same thing as you, but i finally got the flying saucer ( i used to have a plastic exercise wheel). My chin loves it, it is more quieter and has better quality than the exercise wheel (idk about the wheel from quality cage, i bet it's better than the one i got), it took him about a week to get use to it, now he's expert at it and he wouldn't run on the old wheel when i give it back to him  ::silly::

I have the just plain flying saucer that you buy at petsmart. Ingram loves it! I know you arent supposed to have plastic in their cage but he has never messed with it, I keep plenty of chew things for him. Its super quiet, he will run on it for hours.

I have never had a problem with it flipping over like someone else said, I did however have a problem with it moving and banging up against the side of the cage though  >:( talk about annoying! I mounted it to a piece of wood, to hold it in place in the corner of his cage. All is good now and as a bonus he likes to chew on the wood.

My son really wants the flying saucer...so...Standard or large size? They say standard for most chinchillas...I don't have a scale to see if they are over 2 1/2 lbs...So that's my new delemia...

What size to purchase? The large since I have two chins? Since two chinchillas on top of it surely would put it over the 2 1/2 lbs weight...

If your chinchilla weighs 1134grams that's one big chinchilla.  Most are like half, 600 grams at the most.   ::silly::

We have the standard and that is big enough, usually the two do not run in the same wheel at the same time, although it is funny to watch especially when they want to go in opposite directions  ;D

Thanks...that's good to know! I was afraid that it could only old that weight...and well wasn't sure what the two of them weighed together. But if a standard will work. That's what I'll order. Thanks so much.

::silly:: YAY! It arrived today...it is larger than I thought it would be. But I didn't look at the dimentions. I'm glad I went with the standard. Definately will be perfect for them! Now...to wait until the 22nd to give it to him...ARG...I want to give it to him NOW...I mean...how cute to watch them...and possibly they'll figure it out by the party and the kids will get a kick out of them on it too. Something to think about...Hm-mm
