Chin's play time places?
« on: May 14, 2010, 04:56:11 PM »

So i am at a lost once again about playtime for my 2 chins. Pogo, the one that always excapes finaly reailzed that he could still get out with the sheet over the play fence. It doesn't matter if i'm in their with them or not. he'll try to excape. I can't let them run around my room bc theirs too much for them to chew on that they shouldn't. I'v thought of getting another play fence and trying to block off the areas that i don't want them to go, but i just have a feeling that that would only last so long before pogo would try to climb up the play fence or something. My other chins is alot calmer and is happy in the play pen.

I'v tried the bath room but they chew on the walpaper. I'v thought about putting the play fence in their around the wall with a fleace sheet behind the fence, i may give that a try, but since i took out their saucer and have it in a sturdy wood box thats in their play fence, its heavy to move. Its hard to me to pick it up by myself, and i don't know if someone would be home to help me.

I'v always thought about my closet, and taking the stuff on the ground out and keeping the door open and putting the fence around the door, but i don't think i really want their stuff flying around all my clothes.

Any suggestions would be great. I'm really hoping that in about a year when i can get a house i can have a room just for my chins and they can run free.

um, i don't know how that would work.

I am soo frustrated right now and feel bad i'm crying. Pogo's goten out 3 times tonight. Each time i put him back in his cage for awhile and i tell him no and bad boy. and he still does it and each time he is wanting out. and its not fair to snowie that he has to go back in the cage. I have one of the chins ball, but they only stay in there for about 15 mins, plus it gets their stuff everywhere. I love him soo much, but i just don't know what to do.

Yes some are so very adamant eh??? They just want out where they are not suppose to be.
FHV has a segment about dogs that couldn't be barred in anywhere LOL
You don't have a porch that could be closed off or a hallway????
A space in the basement you could bar off?
What about a dog pen to set up, and maybe twist tie a cardboard roof on to it? Even the blanket can be attached with ties so he can't get it off.
I don't know if you can train him not to try, but when he's doing what he's not suppose too try putting him back in his cage, the first time he tries. Then leave him there till the next night or play time. ::think::

I always put him back in the cage for awhile, but then i know he wants out so i let him back out after an hr or so. I'v tried to block off the areas of my room where i didn't want them to go, but it never worked. Each time i thought i finaly blocked it off good enough and they would always find a way around it or something. I make try the twisty tie thing, but i'm not sure how easy that would be. I'v thought of buying a cheep king size sheet so i could tuck it back under the fence but i had tried something like that before kinda. I don't have another are to close off, expecatly cause i know they'd fine a way out and then i'd be trying to chase them around the whole house.

I used to have a cardboard lid and that worked for awhile, but with taking it off and on and my kitty jumping on it, it got messed up and didn't last to long.

My friends dogs always find a way to get out of their cages. Thats the problem with bigger dogs. lol. We never kept ours in a cage.

I love having them out, but pogo is real determined to get out and run complety free. Snowie is calm, but pogo is a standered so thats why i think he likes to climb more and stuff.

I just can't wait till i have a house and they can have their own chin safe room and hopefuly a bigger cage and i have a puppy. Thanks for the ideas debbie

So i'm working on disapling pogo when he tries to get out. I always tell him no and to get back down and as long as i'm watching his every move i can catch him in time or atleast most the time. But is has gotten pretty fast at trying to get out. Every time he tries it, should i put him back in the cage for awhile? Should i keep him in their for 5 mins each time? I can see that me just telling no isn't enough.

So he got out once and i put him in the cage for 5 mins. he tried the rest of the times and i put him back in his cage for, 10 mins, 20 mins, 30 mins and he has tried once again to get out. I have a feeling that he's not going to be able to be trained, but i should prob give it a few days.

I have a chin room but not everyone does. What I do is put a plastic sheet on my bed and let them play on there one at a time. I just watch some TV and play with them, they love it. You could also do it in a hall with a baby gate. But the best place is the bathroom with the toilet shut of course, lol. Bathrooms are pretty safe.

Possibly look for a taller playpen on craigslist or something. I would look into something taller than you currently have. Another thought that just came to me is...what about wire...like what people make homemade cages out of. And use that as a cover? You could buy several dog latches and clamp it in certain areas. Meaning that it couldn't be knock down or off. I would think...just a thought.

We just bought a dog playpen. [It's only 30 inches tall though but states it makes a 16ft long fence, which you can angle every 2 foot to bend around things] Due to I'm using it as a fence. To block off the area in the bedroom I don't wish them to go. The remainder of the room is open and nothing for them to get hurt on. I'm soooo excited over this purchase. They are litter trained. So I sit the litter box out...incase they need to pee. And droppings just are swept up after they are put away.

Can you just take off the wallpaper in the bathroom and put up some new kind when you move? We put our girls in the bathroom and cover the sink with a huge towel, they have chewed the door really bad but we are just going to replace it when we need too, its worth it to us for them to destroy the bathroom because they are just so cute and have a blast jumping and chasing eachother in the bathtub!

No its my parents house. They wouldn't be to happy about that. I'm not to fond of wallpaper though, so i hope when i do get a house it doesn't have a lot of wallpaper.  I have currently tamed pogo. I tried the whole potty training, and it didn't work so well, so i just have a fleece blanket on the carpet.

I like the idea of using wire as the lid. I'v thought about that. For now me taping the sheet to the cage works, but I have a feeling i'll need to put something that i can attracted all around the fence to keep him in. With the dog fence how do you get it to stay in the right spot? You don't put the stakes in the floor, do you?

I saw a pic of a playroom and they used cardboard laying against the wall so that they couldnt chew on the wall. wouldnt be too hard for you to move either.
