Switching Foods
« on: June 01, 2010, 04:32:48 PM »

After all of my research, I have decided on switching my chins food. My old food was just crap basically. I know I have to switch them very slowly, as I have done..ever since day 1 one of the switch, they both would pick the new food out of the bowl and leave most of the rest behind.  Its been 2 weeks and Im thinking that I may have switched them a little too soon. They both struggle a little bit, but it always comes out. So i put a little of their old food back in the bowl, and they ate everything but the old. Is this small struggle going to eventually pass, or is it something to be concerned about? The poop content in their cage really hasnt changed at all, they poop great, just takes a little effort.

What does this mean "They both struggle a little bit, but it always comes out"?

At least with my chins, you never know they poop intil the stop one second and then they move and its there. One of my females, will sit up on her hind legs, walk in a few circles, then it comes out. It just seems to me she is struggling a bit.

i'm confused i think.. usually if you change foods too quick its the opposite.. they get soft poop... so did i read something wrong.. i dont' see what changing the food has to do with they might be struggling...
and if they are having a bit of aproblem going, i've heard that some people use a raisin to try to soften it up a bit.. i personally never tried it so i don't know how it works.. but if they are indeed having a problem going,, i would call a vet..they would need attention.

well, whatever it was has passed. I give out a craisin, rasing or dried payapa maybe every other day or so. I keep treating to a minimum. The poo looked fine, just i guess in my mind it appeared that she was struggling. She is fine do, leaving me presents everywhere.

Yes give her a raisin, that will help.
I have seen that too, eating new and leaving old, so going slow doesn't always work.
They know what they like. ::nod::
