As he's ill I would just let him eat what he wants. It's better than him not eating at all! Cheech stopped eating her pellets so I've given her muesli. Not great I know but if it means she's eating.

Critical care is a powder you make up with water. Some will eat it off a spoon or from a bowl but you often have to syringe feed. It really gets stuck in the syringes though! I've been soaking pellets and using a blender and syringe feeding that. Critical care has lots of stuff they need if they're not eating properly.

I can tell you're worrying yourself sick. It's happened and you're doing all you can, you obviously care a lot so just keep it up. Ask any questions you want, I've just had this happen to me so if you need any help or advice just message me. I am in England though, so some stuff might be different, but I'll help all I can. Good luck to both of you!

Aww, thanks jenova. He's the world to me. I'll do anything for my pets. My little guy has to have pins put in his back leg. Did yours have to have pins put in?

No they couldn't pin where it was broken, not without having external ones. It was splinted and had a cast on for three weeks but didn't heal, although the muscle and tissue did heal. So my vet consulted with a specialist exotic vet and we have taken the cast off for three weeks to see if her using it a little stimulates it to heal. She's using it a  little more each day which I hope is a good thing. I'm taking her back on the 7th September for a final check. If it hasn't healed by then it will have to be amputated, but I'm feeling positive for the moment. She's in a one level cage and I feel so sorry for her without her family. Although I've put the cages together and they rub noses with her.

I know exactly how you feel, it made me sick to think she could loose her leg because of me. Good luck to both of our chinnies! ::nod::

At the vet, he was in a bigger cage then the carrier I have him in. I know it shouldn't be to big so he doesn't move around too much, but i'm afried its too small. I was wondering what cage you kept yours in? I wasn't srue if maybe i should try to find a cheap rabbit cage or something.

Cheech is in a one level cage which is about 2 foot long and 1 foot wide. She has a box in there which she's jumping on and off. I know she's not allowed but at first I cut the top off a cardboard box for her but she just pulled it over and started climbing on it which I thought was much more dangerous. I've only just put a toy in for her about four weeks on... I'm kind of making it up as I go along with her. I want her to heal but I don't want her to go insane with boredom and she was so unhappy without a box...

Aww, yes you don't want that. My cage for him isn't even big enough for a box, and yes i want him to heal but I also don't want him to go insane with bordum also.

When Cristine broke her leg she was splinted and put into a 1 level cage. After a week she was given a wheel to excercise. I have never had a chinchilla pinned, it has always been splinted or amputated but you will be amazed at just how fast they can heal

So update us, how is Pogo.  I hope all is well.  Also an update on cheech would be nice.  I hope everyone is doing better.  We just had a bout with a cold and an eye infection here.  Fighting through and doing well.  Good luck to you all!

i hope you little chin gets all better soon. Pogo's doing good. He is eating and drinking and likes to get out of his cage still. Not that he can do much when he's out of it. His foot is still i little big.
