I was wondering what the proper way to pick up a chinchilla was. I think I know but i'm not sure. I'v had my guys for 2 yrs. I just want to make srue i'm doing it the right way.

When I adopted my chinchilla, the person there told me to put 1 hand on his stomach (more toward his front feet, not right on the stomach) and 1 hand under his butt, so that he has something to sit on

I've heard this, but im NO expert, it just makes sense to me: slowly scoop them up from under so they can put their feet on your hands and get a steady bearing while you're slowly and gently bringing your hands together under them and lift.

hehe i wish my chinchilla would stay in one place for me to slowly pick him up, i always have to grab him fast before he run away.

Yeah, thats my problem, they are to fast to do it that way. I'v kinda went back to using the dust bath to get them in the cage.

  well we've gone through it enough times where I can do it pretty quickly and trust me it took a LONG while before we got it down  lol but it does seem I got a mellow chinchilla also. He has his moments but doesn't really spaz out at all; unless of course he's on his wheel.

All my chinchillas are use to being held with their feet on one of my hands and the other is grasped around their tail with my thumb on their back. I have complete control. It doesn't hurt the chin , even if they jump and left dangling.Nor should they be afraid. Once we are both trusting of each other I just let them sit in my cradled arm or on a shoulder.

I have one that is more calm then the other. But snowie got less calm when he was separated from pogo bc of his broken leg. I think it was just cause he wanted to be by him and play with him, but pogo couldn't do anything, even when i let them be together for bit. But it is def easier to hold snowie then pogo. Pogo has never liked to be held in less he is scared, like at the vet.
