New meal.
« on: October 28, 2010, 02:28:04 AM »

Originally when I got my chinchilla Dusty I bought the food at petsmart and wasn't aware it was mostly treats, after finding out I just bought Oxbow chinchilla deluxe because I read it is good for the chinchilla. Ever since I bought it he has barely touched his food bowl and is very angry at me and won't come to me when we play like he used to. Is there anyway to fix that or do I just have to wait?

Offer him treats from your hand and make him come get them. Oatmeal works best as he has to stay to eat, he can't snatch  and run.
Other than that it's just waiting.
You can give him some alfalfa hay, seems to be a favorite.
Is he eating any hay?

Chinchillas can be stubborn. I wonder if he doesn't like that food. I did the same thing you did, but once i switched to oxbow, they ate it with out a problem, but you have to slowly mix it in with there current food. did you do that or just switch it when the other kind was gone? That could maybe be why he isn't eating it? Is he eating the hay? Is the hay oxbow? Is his poop normal? Just switching there food completely all at once can upset there tummy.

He is eating his new food, slowly but surely he is getting used to it. His droppings are normal as far as I can tell. I will try the treat offering, I am hoping he gets a little less stubborn, but he tends to be like that. Thank you for your responses :D
