  My daughter is so in love with our chins! She is always on the hunt for new toys, treats, snacks.... Now she wants to know if they can have acorns?!?!?!? I am not sure they would even eat them. Cerberus plays soccer with his walnuts, and Persephone stows hers away in her house (it's her stash), but neither of them ever EAT any nuts! 
So, what is the general concensus? To acorn...or not to acorn? That is the question!

P.S. The acorns are from our trees, never used pesticide, never will!

well i'm sure someone with better knowledge will chime in, but in the five years i've had my chins and been on forums about 4 years, i have never heard anyone mention acorns, good or bad,, but i'm thinking if they were safe, i would of heard about it.... but i could be wrong.

There's a nut inside isn't there? That wouldn't be good, but I have never heard anyone ask before. Now that's a funny queer thing

Nuts are high in fat so they're probably not good if eaten, but yeah no clue.

No Acorns. Acorns are nuts and will cause Fatty liver disease. I would stick to a craisin or raisin once in a while or a cheerio or plain shredded wheat. Rose hips are safe, a pinch of oats, Apple or pear twigs.

Treats need to be in moderation often people do more damage to their chinchillas by trying to provide a variety that they do not need. We all love our chinchillas but you need to be careful to not "kill them with kindness"

Wow! I had a new question!  I am so impressed with my ignorance! OK. Enough self poking,lol. I know nuts are not appropriate for regular treats, and we are very careful about what our chinny babies get, only the right brand of pellets, alternate alfalfa and timothy hay every other day, willow wands and lava triangles to chew, fresh water every day. ok, ok, ok. 
But since no one can tell me if acorns are poisonous to chins, they are off the playing field. I just thought they would make nice 'balls' for Little Sir. Persephone plays with the golf ball, but it is a tad big for our little boy chin. They never eat their nuts, so I thought he might play with acorns too.
But without a conclusive answer, the answer is 'no', of course.

Golf balls are safe? I never would have thought of using them but that could be a fun toy for my two. Good idea

Oh my,
Yes there have many things I've spotted over the years like pine cones, & acorns, various twigs & branches,hays & grasses. So I just don't bother unless I can find something online that says it's safe.
