xmas tree

Want to buy a xmas tree, but is it safe for my chinchilla?  What if he starting eating the tree?

As for real vs fake I don't think the real would give off any harmful gases/smells, but you definitely shouldn't have the tree accessible to the chins.  Lots of sharp objects from the ornaments, lights, cords, pine needles (real or fake), and a falling hazard.  A fake tree is definitely fine as long as they don't have access to it.  I don't know about real.
