My chinchilla loves hazelnuts and so did my other before he passed; however, I've been reading that nuts shouldn't be given to Chinchillas and that they can be given to chinchillas. I been feeding mine a hazelnut about once a day (raw and unsalted) and when he hears the rattle of the nuts in the container he goes nuts until he has one in his paws. So I wanted to know what y'all think about hazelnuts and if you approve of them how often one should be given (Zeze has been getting one every one of two days)

Nuts are not good for your chinchilla, they cause yellow fat and liver damage.  I would not feed them

i wouldn't. they may love them - don't we all love things that are not good for us?  - but i've read too many stories about rescues who were fed nuts and by the time they got to the rescue their liver was so wrecked even the rescue and 24 hour care couldn't help.

a minute of joy while they're destroying a nut is not worth it.

oh, if you don't feed rolled oats, you could use them as a treat instead! mine absolutely love them - i think you can give them a teaspoon twice a week, i usually just give them a few every so often - and you can hand feed them one by one and it's very cute
