What size cage for 2
« on: March 15, 2011, 12:15:45 PM »

I have the Ferret Nation that I got a while ago.  I don't like it at all.  We are looking at the Martin's Highrise or Townhouse.  I think the highrise measurements are 18X30X48 and the townhouse is 30X36X60.  18" seems pretty narrow to me for 2 chins?  Also, I don't know what kind of shelving comes with it but I was wondering if they should all be removed and replaced with wood shelves, and if so how many?  Any suggestions would be appreciated  : )

i have this one
http://www.chinchillacageshop.org/buy-clean-living-large-chinchilla-cage/

we've replaced the shelves (and took ladders out) - they have round edges so you'd need a jigsaw - and we also put a platform between the stages so shelves overlap the platforms and the platforms overlap shelves lower down so they can't fall more than 6" from anywhere.

i really like this cage because it has three large doors which makes things so much easier. and with the platforms, there's so much 'floor' space. i have three girls in one and there's plenty of space for them. they spend most of their time on top shelves and the top platform.

that looks awesome! i would still put a platform or a very large hammock in the middle. 48in is a big fall.

I need to figure out how to make a hammock.  I bought 2 already and within 1 hour they were all chewed apart.

 :2funny:

if they're chewers, i would advise against putting another one in. you never know, they may ingest some and that would do them no good whatsoever. just stick a very large wooden platform in.
