« on: March 15, 2011, 01:32:37 PM »

how long after neutering can you start reintroducing boys to girls? i thought it was six weeks, j's heard four and i have just googled and found a website that recommended eight. sooo... which one is it?

Honestly, I have no idea and I never plan on getting a male... but, I would go with the longest time you've found unless they seem ok, just in case!  ;) That's just me being cautious though, I really don't know the facts  ::shrug::

i do definitely want to stay on the side of caution but at the same time, if they only need six weeks, i'd like to have them six weeks rather than eight - the reason why they were neutered was for them to have company so i would like to start working on that as soon as i can, if that makes sense.

There is no study and test for the "clear up" period of chinchillas. My veterinarian said it should be fine after 1 month. And I think what your are saying 8 weeks is normally for dog and cat.

thanks for the info! i had no idea about cats and dogs, all my dogs are neutered but we've never used them for breeding so it wasn't something we needed to check! interesting!

Of course that makes sense! I wouldn't want to prolong their suffering!  :'( Did the vet who performed the operation have a time suggestion? I would go with whatever the vet said, if they did say something.

i didn't ask, i was pretty sure it was 6 weeks. i've seen her loads of times since as well, for checkups, should have asked. i'm sure she wouldn't mind if i gave her a ring, she's great. i might do that. it's 5 weeks today. i have next monday circled and all!  rofl

the vet says 6 weeks is ok. so next monday it is! i think i'm more excited than they are because i know what's coming  ;D although i do hold them by the cages every so often so they can groom faces and that's gone down ok so fingers crossed for quick intros!

Mine is waiting till next Friday, then it will have been officially 6 weeks.  I was told 31 days but with the addition to our house of a new baby, we dont need any chance of any more babies.  something will happen and somehow i will end up with more babies.  Its just gonna happen.  But anywho good luck with your intros, mine are talking and spending time bar to bar visiting every day.  Its cute...

awww that is so sweet :) i think mae and spock will be ok - they seem to love each other already. we also need to introduce ffynn to three girls as well though! it's his mum and sisters and he's always been in a cage next to them so hopefully they'll be ok but still.. it's three of them!!!
