Help
« on: April 25, 2011, 04:16:14 PM »

I have a chinchilla that i got from craigslist. He's not totally scared so thats good. I'm having trouble getting him to come to me which i know can take time. He'll take some food from my hand. Is there a trick that could help besides treats? He's pretty much a rescue since he was being neglected.

Don't let him out of the cage until you are bonded.  If you have to chase him at this point it will make taming him harder. You can try placing dust in your palm in the cage. If he is ready for a dust bath he might rub his face in your hand.

Ok thanks. Is it ok to have his dust bath right outside the cage?

As long as you don't have to chase him to get him back in

No i don't let him run around. I have the dust house right outside his cage and he hops back in when he's done.
