Cats that don't have shots, safe to be around chins?
« on: May 22, 2011, 04:27:36 PM »

I may be moving into my boyfriends house. I may move my chinchilla cage over their first. He has two cats. They never go outside but they aren't up to date on their shots. Is it safe if I bring my chinchillas over to his house?

I also have an extra cage for my chins because I bought them a bigger one and I suggested leaving the smaller one at his house. He thought it wouldn't be a good idea to move them back and forth. I wasn't sure if that would be ok or not.

i dont' keep my cat up to date on shots, and i never did with any of them, they are just too expensive these days.. and mine girls never go out neither..

however, if your chin gets scratched by the cat, that can cause a problem, it doens't have to, but can. i forget what they can pass on to them, but it is something bad.. maybe that thing they can get from rabbits.. pasturella, and i think toxi..something too..

so be careful....

i believe they can catch bordetella from cats but i don't think they are vaccinated against this as standard (dogs aren't unless they go to kennels). i think there are some respiratory infections that can be passed on as chinchillas do tend to develop these rather easily.

so i guess it would be ok to take the chins over there. Just keep a close eye on them?
