Using grass for bedding
« on: September 11, 2011, 05:17:32 PM »

I was wondering if it is safe to use grass for bedding. Just regular cut grass from my yard either for the bedding or in combination with the pine bedding.

Keep in mind that chinchilla digestive systems are not equipped to digest "fresh" grass, veggies, fruit.  Anything you place in the cage your chinchilla will eat.  If you want to use a grass type of bedding it is better to use hay although I don't recommend it.  Hay tends to mold quickly when it gets wet so it doesn't work well for bedding.

I use hay on the base of my Chin's cage, as long as you remove any wet patches each day then there is no problem.
