« on: January 01, 2012, 06:06:59 PM »

ok i wasn't sure where to post but i thought this would be good, so i didnt know a chinchilla could scream till mine (her name is niblit) screamed one night it woke me up, it doesn't help her cage is at te foot of my bed and when i woke up she was looking at me like i was crazy she will run to her door of her cage to greet me or want a treat so when i woke up and saw her at her door it freaked me out i dont know if she screamed to get a treat from me (which didnt work i told her to lose the attitude and ill give her one in the morning and went back to bed) or just to do it to freak me out ::glare:: but i hear her bark some times or make a weird sighing sound its weird and freaked me out

Mine scream sometimes too.  I havn't heard it in a while. They do it in response to fright or pain. Anytime I hear mine make that sound I check on them regardless what time it is.

Just because we can't hear things doesn't mean they can't.  Unfortunately I can't tell exactly what she was trying to say. It could have been a pain of some sort, or it could be that she heard something outside and was panicked by it.  Just keep an eye on her.

You dont want a wood cage. They will eventually chew through it and out. They are great escape artists.

For animals that "eat" wood and rocks, caging a chin in a wooden cage is not a permanent solution.
Chinchillas can eat through vertical surfaces and will eventually get out of hers, if she so desires. You may want to start looking for a better alternative.
Who knows?
Perhaps she's screaming at you because she doesnt' like her cage after all.  ;)

Martin's cages has some decent cages.

http://martinscages.com/products/cages/chinchilla/

The Chinchilla Lodge (R-680) is a good size for a single chin.

But if money is an issue:

The Chinchilla Cabin (R-670) iis an ok choice. The R-670 is a little bigger and taller than the R-660

and The Chinchilla Cubbyhole (R-660) are ok.  The R-660 is very small.

I have all 3 of these listed ones. The only drawback I had is that some of my chins like chewing the plastic door frame covers. They are easily removable though if chewing them is an issue.
