Poop Problem!! Light brown & short
« on: March 28, 2012, 06:47:30 PM »

Got a new chin last Thursday, and today noticed his poop is not normal; its light brown balls. My other chin has oval/elongated dark poop. Google says its constipation. When I moved him to his new cage I don't think he knew where the water bottle was, so I added a new one to the bottom floor. I just hand-fed him water with a bit of pedialyte; as much as he would drink (a little less than an ounce is my guess). Any advice on what to do?
Thanks

You can give a raisin to help get things moving better.

He won't take one from me since he's still new to me, but I can try to give him one. Thanks!

When chinchillas are new to raisins it helps to pick a big plump one and tear it in half.  Squish it to get all of the sticky middle to come out.  This makes them smell better and taste better on the chinchillas first inspection.  Leave it in the food bowl if he won't take it from you.

Have you noticed any changes today?

I tried both methods except I turned around after placing it in his food bowl to hold the other chin who would have date the raisin for him. I put an extra water bottle at the bottom of the cage and it seems that they are both drinking now and his poop looked normal today :)
