Nevada
« on: September 13, 2006, 09:06:25 PM »

Anyone out there in the Reno, NV area? I live in Reno. Doesn't seem like there are to many people into chins here. I moved here from Sacramento California recently.

I know how you feel, not many folks in Newfoundland into chins. The population is growing though, but I would love to know another breeder in person.  ::banana:: that would be so cool.

There are a couple of chin owners here, that I know. But they aren't helpful when I have a question because they just got their chins. Vince my bf, says that internet friends are not real friends, I totally disagree. I do know of a breeder back in California, but it's really embarrasing when I have to call her. It's a lot easier writing a post online about my concerns.

When I first got my chin I didn't know anyone else that had 1 but when I got on internet I found out there are a lot of people around me the have them for pets and 2 breeders that aren't to far. If it weren't for everyone on here I don't know what I would have done.

I think of everyone as my friends as well. But Vince and his family don't understand the Chinchilla thing. But I don't care, at least my "chin" family on here does, and that's all that matters.

I don't think any of my friends or family totally understand. My mom was fussing at me last night about how much time I spend with them when I have so much other stuff I could be doing. My husband also fusses about that, but I got him back on that 1. He was fussing one night about me cleaning out the cages so much so I said fine I will let it got for a few days. Well it really didn't smell bad until I started vacuuming it out and then I was kinda ruff. Now he keeps his moth shut about that.  :D ;D

Me too,
I have met some pretty awesome folks online with my chins.
I got my first chin in May of 1999 and have been online every since. You can't help but get to know folks, and care about them.
I think that makes for great friends.
The best part is we are only a keyboard away, 24/7.
We my have to wait for replies, but it helps just to know there are folks right here willing and wanting to help, advise or just listen.
We feel each others pains and joys.
What better friends then that could you have? |hugs|

Thanks Debbie!

It's so weird the boyfriend of 6 years (and his parents) don't understand the chinchilla "thing". They even once ganged up on me and tried to make me get "rid" of them! I told them in a no nonsense way that I would get rid of Vince first. So now they don't really say much. They just deal with it. But they think I'm really crazy for talking to people online that I don't know in "real" life. I still hear about that one all the time. It's so annoying. I think some of my best friends have been met online, and the chin people at least understand me. Who else (out here where I live) can say they have a friend in Newfoundland? Not too many. LOL.  :)

Some folks just don't.
I have seen grown men cringe at the site of them, one wouldn't go near the chin room.
My Stepfather thinks their just another rat, and has a phobia of rats.
It's so much easier to live with the animals eh!  :D

I know it must be hard with you so attached and them being so insensitive. I hope you can get them to understand how you feel, and that they will learn to appreciate you dedication.
Remind them that those attributes in you will make you a wonderful wife, daughter-in-law, and maybe someday a mother. To say nothing of the special person you must be to care so much.
It's that why he fell in love with you in the beginning? ::nod::

::silly::I've found that, as a rule, if someone dislikes chinchillas ... they just haven't taken the time to get acquainted.  Once someone actually touches that soft fluffy fur, sees one begging with both paws on the wire cage and their little noses pushed through, snuggles under their chin and/or sees them holding food in their little paw, with that "Thank-you" look, it melts their heart ... if it doesn't life is passing them by.  :(
But, on the other hand ... some people like cats, some dogs and some chinchillas ... diversity makes the world go round!  ::nod::
