Chinchillas fur knotted?
« on: January 10, 2013, 09:41:34 PM »

Hello,
If anyone could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. Near my chinchillas tail the fur feels knotted. Its only on the tips on the fur. It doesn't feel sticky but has the texture of if something sticky was on the fur and dried. Could this be from my male chinchilla mating and possible semen getting on her fur? Also she is pregnant so maybe she cant take her dust baths good enough at the moment? i know she tries to role around in the dust bath. Is there anything i could do? Thanks again

Some girls do have a problem with getting knots around the tail on their backs.  Just like when we get really bad tangles there is no easy way to get them out other than to just grab and pull.  I don't do it to my pregnant girls because they don't like it and it does stress them because just like with our hair, it hurts.  I have found with the really bad knots its easier on the chin to just pull them out then trying to brush them away. The good thing is that when they feel you pulling they usually release the hair and then it comes out easy.

Grab a knot and give some firm but gentle pulls.  Most will slide out without much effort.

I don't know.  Some girls are more prone than others.
