Playtime boredom
« on: July 08, 2012, 04:14:57 PM »

I let my chins out everyday (usually in the morning and before bed) for at least an hour and a half total. While they both enjoy playtime, one of my chins Dexter seems to get bored often. I've tried switching it up and taking them to the bathroom sometimes as well as my room, getting a tube, making the play area almost 2x bigger and lots of toys to chew on. We make sure they get interaction a lot too by trying to play with them but he'll even get bored of us after a while! I've thought about getting a bunny castle for him or a maze, but I'm just trying to think of more ideas bc I'm worried he'll get bored of those things in like a week!

You say he is getting bored. Is it that he is just sitting in the corner doing nothing like a sign of depression? Or is he exploring and poking around normally perhaps just not interested in the things you want him to be interested in like wood trim on the walls?

No he just seems like he's trying to find something to do (or escape) more often when he's bored. While he does chew up everything he can get his mouth on, he just seems like he has more energy when theres something new. I've thought about getting a flying saucer but I'm not sure if my FN cage can support it.

Do you think a chin spin would safely work in the FN cage?

I've thought about getting one but my boyfriend doesn't want to get a wheel at all because of the horror stories about chins getting on the top of it and getting really hurt! Know anyway around that?

I suppose the only way a chin would get on top is if there were a way for it to climb where it could jump down onto it.

It's interesting that this thread was started today:

Although I'm still thinking of out of cage ideas, like maybe a perch tower or something similar to what cats use?
