Chins live a long time, there is no rush.
I just took in a 3 year old rescue 2 weeks ago, I have hardly touched him.
He's in a new cage, new surroundings, with new smells,lots more chins and the hand that fed him has changed, the voice that spoke to him has changed.
I usually don't bother with them util they don't mind my hands and face in their cage, will come for treats and baths, or just way too much time has gone by and they still cower in a corner. Yes that can happen too. I have at least one that still barks and tries to spray me and I have had her 7 years.
One week is way too little to start worrying, give it time and keep up what you are doing.
Believe me it's well worth the wait, you need lots of patients with chinchillas .
