Stange fur loss under chin

Both my boy chinchillas seem to be experiencing fur loss on the under side of their chin. I've seen that when they drink from their water bottle they get a lot of water on their chins. Could this be causing this balding on their chins?

The first thought that comes to mind when I hear about missing fur on the face is fur fungus. You might want to get a different type of water bottle to see if that will improve. Having constantly damp skin is not good for any animal and can breed fungus and harmful bacteria.
There's also a chance that the wetness is uncomfortable and your chins have rubbed or scratched their faces on something that caused the hair to come off. If it spreads then it might be fungus that will need treatment. If you think its caused by drooling then you have a different problem that may need a prompt vet exam.

It isn't normal for them to get wet when they drink.  I am wondering if the water bottle spout is too big for them.  I was thinking at first that it could be teeth problems, but since it is both chinchillas that is less likely.  id you buy a rodent water bottle or a rabbit water bottle?

I think it was a rodent water bottle, maybe a ferret one, it was right above the dust bath in the isle and next to all the chinchilla chew toys. We found a bottle online that says it is drip proof and ordered it. They are still just babies only about four months old, maybe it is too big for them... any suggestions on where to get a smaller spouted bottle? Also we scheduled a vet visit for this Thursday.

You can try the usual walmart or petsmart or local pet store. Sometimes you can find these at stock and tack stores. Also make sure the seal is nice and tight on your existing bottle.

It was a chinchilla water bottle, but I think it was designed for full grown chinchillas. We've replaced it with a smaller bottle and they don't seem to be getting as wet on their chins. Sala has been scratching his nose and face and I think it is a fungus cuz it kinda looks like it could be spreading. We've made a vet appointment for them both to get checked out tomorrow. Thanks everyone for your help, I wouldn't have thought about the bottle spout being too big for their little mouths.
