Homemade chew toys tonight??? I'm going to pet store tomorrow :)
« on: September 22, 2012, 08:53:10 PM »

Hello all,

Very new here, purchased 5 yr old chin on the 21st.

He only came with 2 wooden chews...
I am letting him run around, but want to provide him some toys. I have 2 cardboard boxes, and a toilet paper tube with Timothy hay stuffed inside.

What are some household toys I can provide my NEW to me family member?

I was thinking wooden Tinker toys, Lincoln logs, wooden blocks.

BUT I am afraid to cause him harm.
What are some wooden toys I can throw his way tonight to let him "Gethis chew on" ?

If you got anything maple be good. It needs to be untreated wood for it to be safe for them. But if your going to pet store tomorrow it can wait a day especially if already got some little stuff. Know you want to treat him right but trust me don't gotta rush and come up with something. Rather buy something safe and wait a day then give something not good for them today.

What about cardboard?
I put a shoebox in with him, and a empty roll of toilet paper stuffed with hay.

Is he cool to eat the cardboard?

I give mine cardboard. TP rollers are okay. I would prefer to give mine cardboard from food packages because the ink on must be non-toxic. Maybe or maybe not so much with boxes from other products. For those you might want to give him pieces without ink on them.

DO NOT give lincoln logs. They're probably not safe woods!

i wouldnt use tinker toys since you cant be sure what they are made out of.

things made with kd pine, poplar, bagel bites, vine items, are safe, as long as there havent been any pesticides or chemcials put on them.  be careful at petstores, a lot of their items will say chin safe, but in reality they aren't.  some of the safe pet store items are: superpet lava items, super pet apple sticks, super pet fiddle sticks - huts - shelves, the WARE brand has some safe willow items, i cant think of what else they might have. sorry the list is short.
