I have a male chin that is around 9 month old. In the last 2 or 3 weeks I think he thinks my had is a female chin. He is trying to hump my had! He has always been a real sweet heart, but in the last few weeks I can't put my had in the cage at all with out him jumping on it. I have tryed to keep my hand up high so he can't reach it but he will bite me and try to pull his self up. I got a stuffed animal the other day to put in with him but he was chewing it so I had to take it out. I don't know what else I can do. I do have to females in the same room with him, but I also have another male in there also and he is not doing all this. Every 1 is in there own cages so there wont be anymore babies, but I just don't know what to do about this little problem we are having. If anyone can help me please do.

  He he! Some of the boys just do that. One of my males Squirrelbuny will hump and he's neutered even!

      Sounds like he loves you OR is trying to blackmail you into giving him a mate.   

Chins have their own personality and love who they please. 

We have one female chin that is in love with my husband ... we dare not kiss in the chin room ... if we do, PEEtunia will spray me every time I walk by her cage for the next three or four days.

Don't know of anything you can do to stop him except tell him "No-No" and put him back in his cage when he does it.  Of course, that will break his heart. :-[

i have a question for Jo Anne: say i want to pick up my chinny Cheerio and she starts making all this noise and kicking. should i just put her down or should i just try to clam her down so she can get used to being held by other people.

Hi Chinny Girl,

   That depends on the situation ... if he is fussing at you before you pick him up, he is probably trying to tell you he needs his own space right now and he wants you to leave him alone, or that he is still afraid of you.  And may even be trying to warn you he'll bite you if you don't leave him alone.
OR
   If he starts fussing just as you pick him up or after you pick him up, he may be trying to tell you he does not like the way you are holding him or picking him up and may even be hurting him when you do.  He may be warning you he's gonna eventually bite if you don't correct it. (Chinchillas do not always have a lot of patience with someone that is hurting them.)
OR
   If you are not supporting both his hind feet properly and all the time he may be afraid he is going to fall ... this is where the wiggling/kicking usually comes in to play ...  and a bite, if he gets scared enough.

   Should you keep trying and/or hold him close?  If he is OK with you when he is out playing,  I would try again, but more carefully and gently. I would hold him close to me and talk softly to him the whole time.  Sometimes, when they can hear your heart beating, it calms them down a bit.

    If he is still a bit skiddish with you ... I would wait and try again the next day.

Two good photo programs.  And allot of work and time.     The picture is about 15 years old  ::)and my chins are only 5 and7  years old.   :-[ I had to go hunting through a bunch of pictures to find just the right two. 

     To do the same, you will have to find the picture of you that you like (preferrably professionally done) and the chins you want in the picture.  All the pictures must be clear and sharp for it to do good.   Do a trace a cut-out of your chin.  Enlarge it to make the trace cuts almost un-noticeable (400%), save it in the gif. format.  Bring up the origional picture.  Over lay and align it properly , then save it in the jpg. format.

    I was wondering when someone would call me on that.

thanks! as you can see i now have a picture icon. but i don't know how to get my own picture. i tried and it says i can only have the pictures it lets my pick from. but i still like this one. it looks like Cheerio even tho its supposed to be a standerd grey.

Don't worry Jo Ann, I had been wondering about your awesome avatar for some time!  And now I know
