Garlic Skins?
« on: May 05, 2014, 05:33:32 AM »

I keep finding pickle has picked up a bit of garlic/onion skin and eating it!!! You know the outside but that's dry and crispy? Is that normal?? Can they eat that? I take it away from her but somehow she keeps ending up with it I think it must be where I pull something out the fridge and it falls out!!!
Just wasn't sure if anyone else's chins do this!? Or if she's just a bit weird!!

In all known mammals except humans garlic and onion are somewhat toxic.  They destroy red blood cells causing hemolytic anemia.  It takes a large amount or a frequent small amount to cause problems but they are silent problems.  There are no symptoms until the disorder has become very serious.  Since you can't tell how much effect it's having I do not suggest letting animals have garlic or onion despite some people using it as a supplement and dewormer.
