Shelf Urinating

Hi my chinchilla recently has started to pee alot on his wooden shelves, i dont want them to be ruined! how can i fix this problem, and how do i clean it? thanks

You may want to scrub the shelf with soap and water. Also take any soiled bedding and pile it up in a corner of the cage. If you are changing the bedding too often there may not be enough of a smell to attract your pet to that area to urinate. You can take some of the dirty bedding from the previous cage cleaning and put it back.
If you are not changing the bedding often enough they will have a harder time making a distinction of where their bathroom area is supposed to be.
The smell is what is going to attract them. You may have to turn the shelf over and reinstall it if the problem persists. Usually chinchillas do not like to pee on shelves because it gets in their fur.
What kind of bedding are you using and how often do you change it?
